We install the right network cable... We have come across several network cable installs done by the phone man. Now we don't knock the phone man because several can install network cable very well. But some phone guys shouldn't go near a network cable. We've come across several installations where the computer network and the telephone network were running across the same cable...using basic telephone cable. While that used to be OK on older slower networks it certainly will not work over the new high speed networks. Most phone cable does not have the quality rating to reliably inhabit a 10 base T computer network much less a 100 base T computer network. If your having your new office wired for a computer network and phone network think twice before having the phone guy install both at the same time. Ask questions about the quality of the cable to be used. There is nothing like having to reinstall your network cable next year so it will work with that new 100-baseT hub you just installed. 100baseT networks require a special cable as well as special installation practices. Ask your computer network installer questions and when he can't give you satisfactory answers, call us. |
